No one was lying when they called New York the city that never sleeps! I've been back for awhile, but too busy to keep up with everyone!

So I am back from a lengthy hiatus from the Comedy Castle... I had a really great opportunity to do some touring around the states with a group of other lesbian comedians, doing this fringe festivals and women's festivals circuit. It was so much fun! I got some great exposure and met some interesting people along the way. My favourite place was Chicago, mostly because I met a cute brunette named Heather... who I think was mostly attracted to the way I pronounced her name (in my accent it sounds more like 'Edder' haha) and various other words, but I'm not complaining. ;) She followed me to a couple of other cities, too. Can you believe it, I had a groupie? haha.

Now that I am back, I've landed myself a really nice contract with the Comedy Castle. I am now the emcee for the weekly Amateur night, host for the thursday through Saturday acts, and the Sunday night headliner. The owner said he missed all the Quebecers who seem to come into New York just to see me... apparently attendance was down while I was touring, and he doesn't want me to leave ever again! haha We'll see I guess. I quite liked touring. :)

I was talking to mon ami Adam the other day... he stumbled across my Suzi's blog. I didn't even know she had one... but apparently she is here in New York. I just wish I knew where.....

I found a place to live! Nice little apartment, sharing it with this potential actress named Alyssandra. Very nice to get away from that huge billboard of Ty staring at me through that hostel window! ;)

I have all but given up on hearing from Suzi ever again... I guess I really hurt her bad when I up and left Montreal. :\ I miss her so much... I thought she was the one. I honestly believed we could make it work and she'd follow me to NYC. Wishful thinking, Mélanie. Time to move on... I'm in NYC now, there's plenty of beautiful women here. ;)

My contract is up for renewal at the Comedy Castle... gonna be meeting with the manager about it tomorrow. I don't think it'll be a problem getting my current gig renewed. I've beefed up the material quite a bit and it seems to be a success with the audiences. What I'm really hoping for is for some more shows than the two a week I'm currently doing. If I can't get more than that then I think I'm going to have to try and find me an agent to start promoting me, because it's hard work coming up with material AND trying to promote yourself and all that jazz.

Well I'm sure I have bored you all half to death... but if anyone feels like going for a late night coffee, give me a shout! I'm kind of bored over here. ;)

Mél

Euh... not much to say because not much is really going on! I still have not found a place to live, BUT! I have an audtion at a comedy club tomorrow. The manager said he had heard of me, so I hope that's a good sign. Most of my material is in French, and the jokes don't exactly translate over into English very well. So over the weekend I have come up with some new English material and practicing it on other people staying at the hostel. People have been laughing, so fingers crossed the manager will like it. Most of it is about my mishaps learning my way around NYC.

Still have not talked to my parents... they don't actually know where I went. I have not talked to my little brother, either. I really miss him. Sure we are about 12 years apart, but we are still close. Suzi still is not taking my calls, either...

Well I want to get a good night of sleep before my audition tomorrow... wish me good luck! Or as we say in Quebec, bonne chance!

Becs et bises,
Mel

Subject:Intro -- Bienvenue à New York?
Time:08:50 pm
So I arrived in NYC at 7h15 this morning... I left Montréal last night at 23h45 on the Greyhound bus. Not exactly the more comfortable way to travel, but it was the fastest and cheapest way to get out of there. I do love my family, but I can't stay there any more. And I have always wanted to come to New York, so here I am. I miss my little brother, though. He doesn't know what was said between my parents and me and he was asleep when I left the house. He is pretty young but we are still close. Maybe I will send him a postcard when things get more settled, so that he knows I am alright. And my Suzi... well, I miss her more than anything but she is not happy I left. She drove me to the bus station but she refused to come with me to New York. I tried calling her a few minutes ago, but she is not answering. I just want to tell her je l'aime I love her...

The first 12 hours or so have been very overwhelming. I did not come here with much, really just some changes of clothes, my toothbrush, and about 500$. Which in american money is even less. For now I am staying in a hostel, but I hope to find a place to live very soon. And also some work. But finding work might be harder because I am not exactly able to work here legally... so we will see how that goes, I suppose.

The thing about this city that is going to take getting used to is all the English. I am not used to hearing so much of it. Until I arrived here I thought my English was good, but now I am not so sure. Apparently I have a thick accent? That is what some of the other people staying at the hostel say. But I am not so sure- they have some pretty strange accents themselves. One of the girls at the front desk said she speaks French, but when we talked it was quite obvious she spoke le français parisien, parisian French. Which is just... not what I speak. Not even close.

Well, to mes amis my friends I left behind in Montréal, I miss you greatly... as you can see I have internet here at this hostel so you can still talk with me on the AIM... mel te fait rire if you have forgotten it.

Becs et bises,
Mélanie
